This policy explains what information SayBay uses and the choices you have when using the app and website.

Overview
SayBay is a guided English conversation-practice app. We use only the information needed to provide conversation practice, pronunciation assessment, saved progress, subscriptions, and a reliable service.
Information we use
Depending on how you use SayBay, this may include:
- Account information supplied by you, Apple, or Google, such as your name, verified email address, authentication methods, and optional profile photo.
- A technical account identifier when you use SayBay as a guest.
- Your conversation activity, progress, pronunciation scores, sentence-review progress, saved Tune words, and completed or retried practice.
- Detailed assessment results such as word, syllable, and phoneme scores, timing, error labels, and likely sound alternatives when the assessment provider returns them.
- Subscription status and allowance usage used to determine access to assessment features.
- Limited product-use events and technical app information, such as app and SDK versions, device and operating-system type, locale, time zone, app-instance identifiers, and event context needed to understand engagement, reliability, and purchase outcomes.
We use this information to operate your account, save progress, provide feedback, validate Premium access, improve content, understand product use, and protect the service. Supabase handles passwords and authentication credentials; SayBay does not store your password in its application profile database.
Product analytics
When analytics collection is enabled, the app sends a limited set of approved product events to SayBay and Google Firebase Analytics. These events cover actions such as opening app screens, choosing practice options, completing practice, and purchase or restore outcomes. SayBay receives these events with your technical account identifier so it can measure product use and reliability. Firebase receives the approved events and limited app, device, and anonymous app-instance measurement data, but SayBay does not send Firebase your SayBay account identifier, email address, profile details, recordings, or transcripts. Analytics collection does not include recording audio.
Profile photos
If you choose a profile photo, SayBay crops and resizes it, removes embedded image metadata, and stores the processed image in private Supabase Storage. An available Google account photo may be imported when you first sign in, but it does not replace a photo you upload or a decision to remove your photo. The app uses short-lived signed links to display stored profile photos.
Microphone and voice recordings
SayBay asks for microphone permission when you start conversation, sentence-review, or Tune practice. Conversation recordings remain temporary on your device while you practise. Each finished conversation turn is sent securely to SayBay in the background and forwarded to Speechace for pronunciation assessment. Sentence-review and Tune recordings are sent when you submit them for assessment. SayBay does not store recording bytes in its database, file storage, logs, or analytics, and does not retain the recording on its servers after processing. Scores, detailed pronunciation diagnostics, sentence-review progress, and Tune practice history may be stored as learning progress.
Automated feedback
Pronunciation scores, sound alternatives, and highlighted weak areas are automated estimates. They may be incomplete or inaccurate and are educational feedback, not a linguistic, medical, or clinical diagnosis. When SayBay cannot reliably connect a sound to an exact spelling range, it uses a broader word-level fallback.
Generated audio
Conversation and review reference audio may be generated using artificial-intelligence text-to-speech. Generated reference audio may be cached so it can be played consistently without regenerating it for every learner.
Service providers
SayBay relies on service providers to operate the product. These include Supabase for authentication, database, private profile-photo storage, and generated-audio storage; Speechace for pronunciation assessment; ElevenLabs for generated reference audio; RevenueCat and the Apple App Store for subscription validation and restoration; Google Firebase Analytics for app-usage measurement; and infrastructure providers used to host the service. They process information under their applicable agreements and policies.
Subscriptions and billing records
SayBay does not receive or store your full payment-card details. Apple processes App Store purchases. Apple and RevenueCat retain billing and entitlement records needed to validate subscription status, process lifecycle events, and restore eligible purchases.
Data retention and deletion
We keep account, profile photo, learning-progress, detailed assessment, sentence-review, Tune history, subscription-status, and product-event data while needed to provide the service and meet legitimate operational or legal requirements. Removing a profile photo deletes it from your active profile; temporary cleanup records may remain while an unavailable storage service is retried. Deleting an account permanently removes associated SayBay app data and queues any unavailable profile-photo cleanup, subject to records that Apple, RevenueCat, Google, or another provider must retain under their own obligations. Account deletion cannot retract anonymous measurement data already delivered to Firebase; Google handles that data under its own retention and deletion practices. Removing the app or reinstalling it is not the same as deleting a registered account.
Security and changes
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, but no service can guarantee absolute security. We may update this policy as SayBay changes; the current version and its effective date will always appear on this page.
